Day of the Dead. A tradition celebrated with family

Day of the Dead is one of the most recognized Mexican celebrations in the world. A festival that fills homes, schools, public spaces, and cemeteries with color, aromas, music, light, and cherished memories each year. Day of the Dead blends indigenous traditions and customs with Christianity, as well as with popular creativity. All of this with the same purpose: to honor the memory of our loved ones, who year after year have the opportunity to return to our side to be remembered and to recall their time on Earth.

In Mexico, the Day of the Dead is much more than a tradition: it is a symbol of love, identity, and continuity. A way to keep alive the connection with those who are no longer physically present, but who remain in our memories and hearts.

And you, how do you celebrate the Day of the Dead?

Our first contact with this celebration is through family. You surely remember where you used to buy marigolds, cockscomb flowers, or baby's breath; figuring out how to arrange the candles and decorations like sugar skulls, papel picado (cut-paper decorations), and mementos of our loved ones. In many parts of Mexico, visits to the cemetery are a deeply rooted tradition, but many families also set up an altar at home.

When you have unique spaces like those in our homes for sale and pre-sale homes in the Country area of Villahermosa, you have the opportunity to create an altar for your loved ones who have passed away in a special place where you can let your imagination run wild with the decorations. From building arches of marigolds to designing floral carpets that you can admire every time you pass by or from different angles of your home.

A Day of the Dead altar isn't complete without the favorite dishes of our loved ones who will be visiting us during these days: fruit, desserts, drinks, and regional recipes. When it comes to preparing their favorite food, this is an opportunity to involve the whole family. That's why having a spacious kitchen like those in our models of homes for sale and homes in pre-sale (such as the Scandiano Model with its Küchen kitchen and our Vittoria Model) gives you the opportunity to bring everyone together to help: while one person peels fruit, another chops onions and garlic, and someone else prepares a salsa or cooks the tomatoes and meat.

And what about those of us who stayed behind?

During this season, it's common to find pan de muerto (Day of the Dead bread) in all bakeries and stores. Its unique flavor transports us to the joyful moments shared with family during this time. Our homes for sale and pre-sale homes in the Country area of Villahermosa offer spacious areas ideal for spending time with the whole family, whether on the terrace, in the barbecue area, or in the living room. A wonderful activity for this occasion is to take out photo albums (printed or digital) and remember our loved ones together.

This season is a good opportunity to reflect on how we live our lives and remember that we will always be remembered for how we make those around us feel. Because every memory, every altar, and every shared story makes home a place where life always finds a way to continue.
